Hello peeps!
I've been living it up in our nation's great capital - I'm a lucky boy! But a busy boy too.
Recently, the "happy-slapping" thing has come into the press again over the murder of a man in London by a "gang" (read: small group) of teenagers (the youngest being 13!!!).
Where I've been working, we were cautioned on day one to be aware of potential threats (Kennington Park is well known for drug pushers and thieves).
Where am I going with this I hear you ask? Well...
Garth has often made mention of awareness. It should be second nature to you all by now - if it's not, then practise!!! Seriously, practise a high level of awareness, try to take in all that is around you when you head to the shops, or park the car etc etc.
Self protection begins with awareness and a sense of self-awareness (knowing what you are and are not capable of). The eminent martial artist Rick Young once told the story of how his wife had said she hadn't got a "killer instinct" yet when asked what she'd do if someone endangered their children she suddenly realised she was quite capable of "going all the way" if the need presented itself.
It's a sobering thought.
Be aware. It's essential to not only your survival but also possibly that of your "attacker". For, the first rule of self-proctection is... Don't be there!!! If you're not in a position for an episode to take place no-one is in a position to be hurt!
Remember, it is frighteningly easy to take life but who has the ability to give it back???
